Cigar Culture Summit Africa 2026: Johannesburg Welcomes the Cigar Community
There is something special about the conversations that happen over a cigar. Stories are shared, friendships begin, and an appreciation for craftsmanship becomes a connection between people. From 23–25 October 2026, that spirit will take centre stage in Johannesburg at the Cigar Culture Summit Africa, bringing together cigar enthusiasts, brand owners, experts and industry professionals.
Under the theme “Learn. Taste. Connect. Celebrate.”, the summit promises an experience that goes beyond simply discovering a new cigar. It is an opportunity to explore the people, traditions and expertise behind premium tobacco—and to join the conversations shaping cigar culture in Africa.
More Than a Cigar Event
The summit welcomes everyone from curious newcomers to experienced aficionados. Its programme combines presentations, expert-led discussions, masterclasses, brand showcases, networking and tasting experiences, creating opportunities to deepen your knowledge and meet others who share your interest.
For cigar lovers, the organisers highlight subjects including blending, ageing, cigar shapes and sizes, flavour development, and the journey of tobacco from seed and soil to finished cigar. Pairing experiences will also explore how cigars interact with whisky, rum, cognac and coffee.
Whether you want to better understand the blend you enjoy or discover a different approach to pairing, the focus is on turning appreciation into understanding.
International Voices, African Perspectives
The announced speaker line-up brings together perspectives from cigar production, retail, brand development and community building. Master blender and consultant Claudio Sgroi will contribute to the “Blending Experience”, while Anthony Azar, founder of the International Cigar Sommelier Institute, will share insights into cigar storage, collection and preservation.
African cigar culture will feature prominently. Pedro Ramos, Sales Director at Amano Cigars and co-founder of Los Amigos Cigars, will discuss the African cigar market and national industry. Andrew Edmondson of Francois Cigar Collection will explore Africa’s cigar heritage and brand storytelling.
Nosipho Gumede, founder of The Cigar Lady SA, will contribute sessions on women’s role in shaping cigar culture and on building engaged consumer communities. These discussions bring an important local perspective to an international gathering.
What Happens Each Day?
The published timetable outlines a weekend of learning, conversation and celebration:
The organisers’ programme page notes that a detailed agenda and session timings will be announced, so attendees should check for updates before making their final plans.
Connecting Africa’s Cigar Industry
For retailers, distributors, cigar lounges, hospitality businesses and brand owners, the summit offers more than a social weekend. The organisers identify networking, market development, retail opportunities, brand storytelling and experiential hospitality as central themes.
Bringing enthusiasts and industry professionals into the same setting creates space for meaningful exchanges: what customers value, how brands tell their stories, and how businesses can create more engaging cigar experiences. These are conversations worth having as Africa’s cigar community develops.
