It's been a year of many clouds of smoke, many brilliant cigars. I am not sure if it's my palate or a combination, but after pairing the Escobar Maduro Robusto, I am going to rate it as one of my favourite cigars of the year.
Here are a few more details on the Escobar Maduro pairing.
Escobar Maduro Premium Cigars.
It is a range of hand-crafted medium-bodied cigars with a perfect smooth draw and a long lingering finish.
The Escobar range is a blend of three vintage sun-grown and aged Habano tobaccos. The tobacco grows in the rich volcanic soil of Nicaragua.
The blended and balanced flavours of the Escobar Cigar have chocolate and black pepper flavours. You can also taste subtle dried coffee and fire-cooked meat on the palate with delicious creaminess. There are persistent flavours of roasted nuts and wood smoke.
These Flavours blended to provide the complexity of the Escobar Cigar, thanks to the fermentation and ageing process. Puros Privados makes cigars with knowledge from generations of skilled Cuban cigar makers.

Escobar Cigars
Many celebrities have cigars with their names on them.
Grammy award-winning and multi-platinum recording artist Nasir “Nas” Jones is a co-owner and equity partner in Escobar Cigars. The brand name is also a tie-in to a name that Nas frequently refers to himself as, including in a 1997 track called Escobar ’97.
The brand and its parent company, Puros Privados, launched approximately three years ago. They currently offer two lines, the Escobar Natural and Escobar Maduro.
Both the Maduro and Natural ranges are from the Escobar Factory in Estelí, Nicaragua.
The Escobar Maduro pairing
Do you care that the Rapper Nas put his stamp of approval on this cigar? Maybe not.
But one thing is for sure, if you enjoy a Maduro cigar, this Escobar Maduro is a must-smoke.
Escobar Maduro Robusto Dry Aroma
The cigar has a closed foot but releases great aromas out of the cellophane.
Raisins
Meat spices
Jelly sweets
Barbecue spice
Earthy moisture
The cigar aroma is a great balance of sweet and savoury.
Escobar Maduro Robusto Dry Draw
The dry draw is creamy and smooth. It is a light draw with enough firmness to release ample flavours.
The dry draw offer notes of barbecue meat, steak sauce and jelly sweets. The draw has the wonderful creaminess of shortbread cookies, and lingering black pepper spice combines with dry coffee tastes.
Escobar Maduro Robusto First Puff
The cigar burns slow with immediate flavour and smoothness. The Escobar Maduro strength is medium but offers a full palate of flavours.
It could be a morning coffee cigar, lazy lunch or a tasty companion for an evening barbecue.
Once lit, the Maduro has delicious sweetness with enough barbecue and pepper spice to blend into an easy creamy puff.
Once Maduro warms up, there are prominent barbecued meat tastes. Delicious.
The Mexican San Andrés wrapper has a beautiful bronze sheen. The wrapper glows even better in the sunlight or evening light.
Escobar Maduro Robusto and Savanna Light pairing
I recently started enjoying more ciders. In the summer, a cold cider is refreshing with crisp soothing flavours.
It is a great palate coating and an easy transition into a glass of wine. The Savannah light offers light apple and fruit flavours with a lemon zesty freshness.
The summery drink pairs well with the Maduro sweetness and a bite of apple tart to compliment the taste experience.
Escobar Maduro Robusto and Light white wine
The cold sip of white wine compliments the Maduro flavours. The wine has subtle fruit flavours.
It's a delicious pairing of saucy barbecue and fruit sweetness. The wine develops a honey and citrus aftertaste.
I did find the white wine acidity too strong. It is an easy-drinking white blend, but I realized the Maduro needs something with a bit more flavour.
Escobar Maduro Robusto and Cabernet Sauvignon pairing
A go-to pairing with a cigar would always be white wine. Usually, white wine offers a smooth waxy palate coating to pair with any cigar.
But, with the Escobar Maduro Robusto, the sip of white wine didn't offer the ideal pairing.
So I moved over to a glass of KWV Cabernet Sauvignon.
A bit of history about KWV
In 1918, Nelson Mandela was born. The same year South African wine farmers founded KWV (Ko-operative Wijnbouwers Vereniging van Zuid-Afrika).
The aim was to stabilise a young, but promising, industry.
KWV offer a wide range of brands.
The range is diverse with great wines and spirits to pair and taste.
Today KWV continues to grow and expand gaining many awards and accolades.
Cabernet Sauvignon Nose
Aromas of ripe plums and blueberries with hints of cigar box, mint, herbs and oak. The well-balanced tannin structure ensures a well-balanced wine.
Meaty
Barbecue
Barrel smokiness
Berries and plums
Cabernet Sauvignon Taste
Firm tannins
Plums and red berries
Cabernet Sauvignon grapes produce a full-bodied red wine.
The wine has dark fruit flavours of black cherry, blackberry, and black currant. It also has savoury tastes of spice and black pepper.
You could taste subtle hints of vanilla and clove due to the oak barrel ageing. The wine has a distinct hint of green peppers.
This fruity and spicy combination makes a Cabernet Sauvignon a brilliant cigar wine.
Escobar Maduro Robusto Evolution
It is an evolving flavour cigar, and keeps improving with every puff.
It is a well-designed blend. I never picked up cocoa and only experienced subtle coffee flavours.
There are hints of cinnamon. That could also be from the apple crumble. The meaty barbecue notes and creamy shortbread tastes stay consistent while the cigar releases more spice into the middle.
The construction is incredible, and the burn line is dead perfect for a warm windy evening.
Escobar Maduro Robusto Finish
Complex but smooth.
The Escobar Maduro is excellent.
It is a very unique blend. The cigar blenders produced an incredible blend with this Escobar Maduro.
The medium strength is consistent with no big nicotine punches.
The cigar smokes smooth and balanced right to the finish.
This Maduro is box worthy.
It's one of those cigar experiences you wish will never end.
A beautiful cigar with delicious barbecue savoury tastes and subtle sweetness to add balance.
The bronze oily sheen stayed present to the end. That surely has an impact on the incredibly smooth and creamy smoke experience.
The Escobar Maduro Robusto gets a big YES.
